The second album by Hamburg punk band Fun Total is called „Da ist gar nichts“ (There is nothing there). „There is nothing there,“ no stability, no „firewall,“ no perfect world behind closed curtains, no security, just the calm before the even bigger storm. Musically, the album conveys the rage, fear, and despair one would expect from local punk bands, socialized with Wipers, Wire, and EA80. HC and 90s emo/indie influences can also be heard. But despite all its variety, the album remains consistently aggressive. Between some of the more intricate parts, a desperate middle finger occasionally smiles at you. The band has been around for several years, but while their first album, „Tristesse,“ was essentially a retrospective of their first extended creative phase, the 10 songs on „Da ist gar nichts“ were written and recorded in a relatively short period of time. It feels compact, and Fun Total are rightfully very happy with the result.
