But first things first: apparently I was the only one who didn’t know No Shelter, or at least that’s how it felt after I asked Professor Hagemann what he thought of the five guys from Emsdetten. He asked in disbelief whether I really hadn’t even seen them live. It seemed as if the beer-metal god had given No Shelter his seal of approval years ago. So it’s clear: nothing can go wrong here.
And “Remission/Resolve” convinces on all fronts after “Rest In Death” (2020) and “Erasing Life” (2022). If you’ve got a soft spot for bands like Trap Them, Nails, or Entombed, this will put a wicked grin on your face.
Recorded at the Tonmeisterei, No Shelter hammer at our nerve endings in 12 acts with the biggest sledgehammer—many strains of modern extreme music find their place in the band’s oeuvre. Slow, ruinous, churning, frenzied—at a D-beat gallop they bore into the ear canal. It’s a deep bow to late-’80s/early-’90s Swedish metal, a paean to the HM-2 distortion that set a whole generation of young death metallers vibrating.
